About Your Tutor
International Cabaret Artiste Shelley Lozano started her career over 20 years ago and has worked as a professional Entertainer all over the UK, Europe and the Middle East as well as places such as India and Kathmandu. She learnt to Belly Dance while working in the United Arab Emirates as a Limbo Dancer Fire-eater & Illusionist and later introduced Belly Dance for fun & fitness to the Schools and Colleges around Hampshire. She has worked alongside many top names such as Frankie Vaughn, Bob Monkhouse, Tony Christie and Peter Kay. Shelly is also a DJ and has written articles on Belly Dance and made several Radio and TV appearances, as well as presenting a 6 part series on Southampton Television called “Arts for Everyone” along with guest appearances on Meridian TV and various other channels.
Course Outline:
Students should gain a basic to intermediate knowledge of belly dancing. Various steps, movements and veil work will be taught, culminating in one or several routines and some students may have the opportunity to perform in public at charity functions if interested. Please wear something non-restrictive, stretchy and comfortable such as leggings and t-shirt or leotard and track suit. You may want to bring a scarf to tie round the hips to accentuate the movements. Best performed bare foot.
About the Course:
Students will learn various steps, hip, arm movements, traveling steps and veil work. They will be able to learn different routines and to improvise. The movements are designed to strengthen the muscles and increase flexibility. Uses all the main muscle groups and helps you to feel comfortable with your own body. A great physical and mental tonic that is suitable for any body type or level of fitness, for young and old alike! It provides room for creativity and to express personal style. Great for improving confidence, self-esteem and maintaining a positive attitude. Improves flexibility, muscle tone and increases suppleness and strength. A fun and exotic way to keep fit and fight stress!
What you will learn / Aims:
How to interpret Middle Eastern music by moving around the floor using various steps and arm movements and how to link these together. Veil Work. Learning to improvise and put together a Routine or make up your own Routine. Express your own personality through the movements.
Entry Requirements & Other Costs
Most classes are payable at a reduced fee monthly, or weekly - price classes vary depending on location and venue so please email for up to date price details.
There are no entry requirements other than enthusiasm and a willingness to learn this wonderful Art form. Belly Dance is fun and suitable for any body shape or size, all ages and abilities. Students will have the opportunity to purchase veils, costumes or music but this is not compulsory.
